Ground cover that won't grow over mulch
I'm kind of new at flower gardening. I'd like to plant a strip of ground cover on each side of my sidewalk coming up to my front door, but I want to be sure I plant something that won't grow over my mulch or over the sidewalk. Considering what else I have already planted, I'm thinking something blue, yellow or white (and perennial - all ground covers are perennials, right?). Any suggestions?

Perriwinkle is a good ground cover for what you describe. Leaves are shiny dark green and blue flowers all summer long, but... doesnt tolerate too much sun. I think you will find that most ground covers shade lovers.

The area where I want to plant the ground cover gets sun almost all day, especially the afternoon sun. Do you think that means I'm out of luck for ground cover? Thanks!

Yes, you are sort of out luck, because the only other ground cover I can think of 'english ivy' which is used in England for ground cover (not only for climbing on brick) is very aggressive in sunny locations, but if you want to keep it on a tight rein, then that would be and good and quite showy and nice. By a tight rein, I mean trimming it back from your walkway and your mulch with scissors once in a while. But, then that is what gardening is all about, having a very pleasing effect always causes some work.

I use perriwinkle and english ivy, sometimes they intermingle, in areas where they can have a lot of fun growing anywhere they like and I don't really have to trim it back unless they get nasty.
