Some ammunition is interchangeable. Like the .38 can be used in a .357. Many owners do this because the rounds are less costly. Gunshop personnel or gun enthusiasts should be consulted. Just because it fits in doesn't mean it will work. Seek out a competent pro.

As usual our "news media" is totally ignorant about firearms.

9 mil is approx .356 which is just smaller than a 38 (.357) which is why the 357 magnum is called the 357 magnum, since it is a longer and hotter cartridge based on the 38 Special. 40 cal is closer to 10 mil rounds. Several years ago there were 10 mil ammo and those just faded away when 40 cal won out with the police purchasers. 40 cal was the round adopted by S&W.

Buy a handloading book and start laughing when on television propagandist start talking about firearms.

BTW - if you are interested in this stuff, watch Future Weapons on the Discovery channel. There you get the real story.

jtom4's right about the news media.. They'll put their mouth in motion before engaging their brain.
But you should watch Future Weapons anyway!
