    Pond snails in aquarium.
I have a fresh water 29 gallon tank. Every 6 months or so I end up doing a complete water change and gravel change do to the pond snails taking over my tank. I have no snails for about 3 months then all of the sudden they show up again. How do I keep them from coming back? I have tried snail begone and that worked for about 2 months now the stupid snails are back again.:eeg: Can some one help me please?

Pond snails don't just show up all of a sudden.

    Here are a few questions:
Do you have a tank or a outdoor pond?
Do you have live plants in your tank?
Did you buy water snails before?
Do you know how the water snails appeared the first time you had them?

The thing is, if you've had water snails in your tank before there might have been eggs. You need to check for eggs before you can just assume that the snails are gone. Water snail eggs are pink, and are usually above the water line.

I'm sorry I don't have an answer but I thought I'd share my info anyway :)

I had snails in my small tank, it was about 20cm long and I had a Siamese Fighter and a snail in it.

The Fighter unfortunately died (he was pretty old) and I took him out and just left the tank with water in it.

About a month later I noticed all these little black dots on the glass.

There were hundreds (if not thousands) of tiny baby snails!!

Sorry I can't help you get rid of them :(

Did you only have 1 snail?
If you only had 1 snail then how would it breed?
    I'm kind of confused here.

    I have no idea.

I was just as confused! I don't even know what type of snail it was, I just saw it in the fish store and liked it (had white flesh with bright orange veins through it.)
Even more confusing was that we had him for several months before the babies turned up!
Maybe there were eggs in the fish store water or something

I don't think there were eggs in the fish store WATER because snail eggs are usually above the water line and most pet store workers throw snail eggs out.

Ok I have a Tank and 2 years ago I bought live plants at a fish store and the snails showed up then. Here is what I did to get rid of them. I boiled everything that was in the tank, including pouring boiling water into the empty fish tank. Started with fresh water, gravel the works, and six months later snails again. So I have been doing this process every 6 months or so. The snails don't get bigger than 1 cm. Looked them up and found that they are called common pound snails. Their eggs attach every where and are clear in color. The snail when they hatch are only seen with a magnifying glass.

Get Rid of Small Snails from Aquariums.
    That site is very helpful!

They recommend Yoyo loaches as one way to get rid of them, I used to have those, we had to ask the pet store why they were called "yoyos"
Felt rather silly when we realised why! Haha
