    Suggest a 'suitable' haircut, please!
    Hi friends,

My photo in the Profile Picture is visible to one and all.

For the last one year or so, I have not attended any salon for haircut, even as other things happen as usual, I mean going to parlor for make-ups, eye-brows or underarm-shaves. However, haircut was not on the 'parlor' menu for all these 12 or so months. Now, I have pretty long, touching knee (the splits or the ends), but it gives a very conventional look to me. I was actually passing through a very confusing time, due to some job problems and some others. Now, I am again in form and want to look cute, modern and fantastic again. Suggest some good cut. Better if you paste some photos. Best, if you suggest some cuts by taking my snap, which is here in the Profile Picture.

I'm an American woman in her 60s, but to me one of the prettiest sights in the world is an Indian woman in a sari with long glistening hair. Even if you want to look professional and modern, I still wouldn't change much! Perhaps just cut it a foot and bring the sides back in a gold barrette in the middle back, swooped upward a bit.

Kahani, it would be best if you just go to a salon and talk to the people who cut the hair and see what they recommend for your face shape and your lifestyle.

I fear going to the parlor/salon because sometimes the girl(s) out there hold your hair and cut as per their interest. The cut which I may get as the result may not suit me. What if my hair is cut too much and I will have to only repent. Sometimes, they ask, "Ma'm, what cut do you want?" Moreover, sometimes the girls are not experienced enough.

    Repent?

Okay, I understand that girls from India are obsessed with their hair, but repent?

Get some magazines, look in them to find the style you like and take that to the hairdresser.

If your hair is cut too short, guess what... It grows back.

You are correct, when you certify 'our' obsession with hair. It is the thing.

You say 'hair grows back' but is not it bad to go in the open even once, if you have not a proper haircut?

What if I never get a haircut? (Do the hair look good [even when left open] without cut or trim).

Magazines are okay. But there are styles and styles, and often the cutting girls say that this cut does not suit you - this is not possible on you - your face is big - your face is small. Or, your face has so much glow, or dullness or the things to this effect.

You say 'hair grow back' but I have my hair touching below my midback, so if it is cut bobs, so short, it will grow back to its original length in 2 years...

Can I ask what your haircut is? (or, do not you get one?)

I'm not obsessed with my hair. It comes to my collar and I am happy with that.

I would just keep the ends trimmed or even have an inch or to more cut off,but do not have it cut short. You have lovely hair which you could create many styles from. The fashion at the moment with long hair is various plating which keeps the hair from the face and goes around the head leaving the hair loose at the back view or if you prefer you could have several plates going the full length of the hair coming together at the bottom.

If you have your hair styled and cut short you are then stuck with it having no alternative to create a new look if you so wish, especially for evenings out.Leave your hair longer and you can incorporate all kinds of beautiful ribbons and shiny strands of glitter and so on.

You could if you wished also add just a tiny bit of contrasting colour here and there.Try a wash in wash out one to start with or just a spray in one that also washes out.

Why not go to a shop where you could try on various weeves/wigs of all lengths, this would give you an idea of what short hair would look like with your shaped face... once it's cut it would take many years to grow the length back again... think very carefully before you decide.

My friend Padma has long hair and keeps the ends trimmed so they don't split, and wears it long and loose, curls it a bit, puts it in a bun (if she feels especially like a librarian that day -- and she is one) and sometimes oiled -- many ways to wear your hair when it is long.
