Ask Me Help Desk FAQ

Here you can find answers to questions about how the board works. Use the links or search box below to find your way around.

What is a meaningful, specific title?

Start your title with who, what, why, where, how or when - and be concise.

1. Do NOT use "please help", "confused", "help me", "question", etc. as a subject title.
2. Do NOT include multiple punctuation marks (like !!!!!!)
3. Check your spelling.

Being specific and concise with both your title and your question will typically result in prompt and meaningful answers.

What is disparaging?

Disparaging is to speak of or treat slightingly; depreciate; belittle.

It's quite alright to say (in a post or comment to a post)
"The above will not work because...", or
"I disagree; here is how I would handle it...", or
"Here is an answer/solution that I believe is more accurate/effective..."
...or similar.

It's not acceptable to say
"so and so does not know what he's talking about", or
"I guess so and so did not care about checking the accuracy of his answer", or
"again, so and so, you've posted in error", or
"so and so's answer is baloney"
...or similar.

If you can't say something nice to or about another member, then don't say it at all.

What is slander, libel & defamation?

First and foremost, Ask Me Help Desk is dedicated to being the premier all-subject source of answers on the net. Members are welcome and encouraged to share their experience with companies, products and services; asking for advice or if others have had the same experiences, however we are not to be used as a medium to harm the reputation of an individual, business, product or group of any sort.

Secondly, be aware that you are responsible for what you write.  In many cases slander, libel and defamation are actionable by law, so use your words wisely.

Generally speaking, you are safe to post your experiences, but name calling and characterizations is not acceptable.

See here for more information about slander, libel and defamation.
