What happens at a military hearing to see if parents of an infant are fit parents
My grandbaby was born in a military hospital. When he was about 3 weeks old he had to be taken back to hospital because of not gaining weight. While there, the hospital filed a complaint with social services about the care of him. The baby was malnurished, unclean, they had no car seat to take him home in, he had cat scratches on him, an eye infection, no diaperbag, they left him at the hospital for a little while to go home and rest, so there are abandment questions, and he had no clothes to leave hospital in, he had to leave in the hospital gown. I live in another state from him so I knew nothing about all this till the social worker in my state came to check on the baby and read the report. My son is deployed at the moment in Iraq, and just found out the army is going to hold a hearing to see if they are fit parents. I would like to know what all is involved in these hearings and what happens to the baby if they are proven to be unfit. Thank you

Is the Military holding the hearing or child protective services (or whatever CPS is called in your area)? Was your son deployed when the child was taken back to the hospital or was the child in the care of the mother?

Evidence is presented at these Hearings and a Judge decides whether the child is abused. Neglected, in danger. If so temporary custody can be awarded to a family member (who applies for it) or the child would go into foster care.

My son was here in the states when baby was taken back to the hospital. He was informed by the military that they will be holding the hearing. The mother and child came to stay with us for awhile since son is deployed. The baby has been taken care of the entire time while here with me. CPS in my state has been to my house several times to check on the baby and they want to close the case since they see he has been taken care of. The only problem is, I am the one who has been taking care of the baby, the mother is very lazy. Does the army call people to testify with cases like this?

    Yes, witnesses will be called.

What CPS in your State decides will be immaterial when it comes to the Military hearing. Looks like CPS is talking about an ongoing case; the Military is talking about specific neglect at a specific time.
