    Temporary custody of family member
    Hi
I live in one state and my sister iives in another with my two year old niece. My sister told me she depressed and unable to handle being a mother therefore she is sending my niece to live with a friend in another state other than mine or hers to care for my niece. This person she choose is a friend who I never heard of or know. She told me the reason why she didn't select me her own sister is because she felt my finance and my health was factor. And that this friend of hers can provide my niece with the medical and financal needs. My question to her was what about love and family. I told her I can provide for my niece for the simple fact with my medical condition I have pleanty of resources. She is held bent on her decision and said the decision is final. Depression makes one make irrational decisions. I am afraid she made arrangements with this friend to take of my niece without my sister understanding and knowing the laws. What if this friend calms later on that my sister is a unfit mother or abandoned her daughter. To where this friend takes my niece permanetly and I'll never see my niece again. I don't know this person from a can of paint and I'm afraid this person my use the information my sister confided in her against my sister. How can I convience her to give me temporary custody instead of this friend?

That is verry possible, if the friend she gave her daughter to claims cild abandonment then yes she will lose the child. Can't tell yo how to convince her otherwise, best thing I can tell you is if it does happen and they do claim your sister an unfit mother you need to head straight to the courts and try to get custody yourself
