Was it the right move to have my abusive son arrested?
My son has been increasingly verbally abusive and most recently it has gotten physical. The police has been called many times and I was told that I had to give him a 30 day notice to move which would end December 31. My son has alienated himself from his long time friends and associates mostly with homeless and transient people. He uses drugs and drinks daily. His stay with me was initially temporary but has stretched 6 months because he refuses to leave although he has called me every derogatory name imaginable. He quit college five years ago and since has been mostly unemployed including now. He recently has made death threats on me and tonight threatened to cut me up and as I was cooking, threatened to put my face on the burner. These kinds of threats have been made many times. He told me I was going anywhere when I tried to leave. I managed to get out of the house and called the police.

My son's attacks on me seem to come abruptly out of the blue sometimes triggered by his misintepretation of something said even complimentary remarks or like tonight after I said "do it your way". I am afraid that this is sign of potential danger in my home. Am I right to be concerned?

Yes your right as he is on drugs and it does strange things to people. If you have him arrested also follow through and get a restraining order. If your life allows it you may think about moving to get away.

Just to reinforce, yes you made the absolute right decision. Maybe he can get help in prison.
