I have a daughter and she had a best friend which I also considered my daughter. She has called me mom since she was 11 yrs old. I have done everything o could to make sure she had everything she needed cause she told me that her parents won't help her out at all. So I bought things I took my grandson every weekend even if I had plans I would cancel so I could help her. We had a fight and now I can see my grandson. I had cared for him every weekend since he was born, it was 5months I took him every weekend and saw hime EVERYDAY. I love him and want the best but I need to know do I have any right to seeing the baby. Just lost without my GRANDSON help *** anyone I'm from CT thank you

You mean you CAN'T see him any longer? Why not? What are the reasons you can't see him?

Well its really not clear she won't talk to me she won't answer me and I have asked her to come over even to pick up the babies things. She says toss them out I don't care. I don't even know why we got into the fight, but my husband had texted her and her boyfriend that if they didn't get there stuff together meaning proiries straight we would drop papers, which was said out of hurt and in the heat of the moment I have tried to talk with her but she wants nothing to do with us. But I have been there took care of him since he was born. There is so much stuff that she don't do for him, but when she was over I would give her advice on what needs to be done or how to get it done. I just want my grandson back. And because she was only my daughters friend I know I don't have any rights but I need help. Any other qeustions I would glad to answer just looking for help. I MISS HIM

Back up the bus. What started all this? -- you giving unsolicited advice, and she was offended by that?

I still don't quite understand. You have a daughter. The daughter has a best friend. 1) Whose baby is it? 2) Who did you offend somehow? 3) What do you want to accomplish?

Its my daughters friends baby. I really don't understand what happened either I just want to know if I have any rights to see the baby. I just want to see him and be his grandmother which I have been for the last 5 months. I apperently offended my daughters friend. Lets just call her shann she and I somehow got into a fight and I don't know why she won't speak to me she did tell me I said something I never did and from there it just went down hill. Now she won't let me see him at all do I have any right to be able to see him or no

I'm not a lawyer, but my guess is you have absolutely no rights to see this baby who is no relation to you.
I just want to see him and be his grandmother which I have been for the last 5 months.
You are not related to him, so you are not his grandmother.

What did you mean by "drop papers" in one of your earlier posts?

Because she and the father are not doing what they need to be doing with the baby. Like not taking to doctors since he was 2months old and other things as well, he's not getting the paretning he should so my husband said we would drop custdy papers if they didn't do what they are suppose to be doing, which they are not. Thank you for your advise and I gusse this is a leason I need to learn, not to help out others too much. And not to have anyone call me mom unless they are my own kids from now on thanks

I totally understand where you're coming from emotionally, but factually, and probably legally, you have no leg to stand on. Your opinion of what should be done was different from that of the mother. The mother will trump, especially when the other person is not even a blood relation.

Why on earth did your husband think he could file for custody?

I'll PM for legal experts to check on this thread.

You have absolutely no legal rights to this child. LEGAL GRANDPARENTS BY BLOOD so not have rights in many States.

If the mother is unfit and you can prove it and the child is taken away from her you would not be in line for custody.

I know you don't want to hear this but it's the law.

I thank all of yo for your advise I didn't think I had a leg but I was just hoping there was something I could do. But I was just used and tossed out when it was good for her. It sucks but I'm just going to have to deal with this. He didn't mean that he would drop papers it was just said in the heat of the moment. Which it shouldn't have but to late now. I just miss him and her for that matter and wish there was something I could do. I don't want to call dcf but I just might have to. I don't want him to suffer because she don't want to be a mother and do what her son needs her to do. So I want to thank you all for your advise and trying to help me. I MAY NOT BE BLOOD BUT I HAVE BEEN HER MOM SINCE SHE WAS LIKE 11 and she called me MOM and GRANDMA to her son. I gusse I'm just hurt so thanks
