    Grandparents need emergency custody
My step daughter has recently had a baby, but she is also considered disabled by the social security administration, for a cognitive disability. Her and her boyfriend have not been taking care of the baby we have had to wake them up multiple times to wake them up because they were not responding to this newborn preemie. He is now sick and in intensive care because they did not listen regarding not taking him out and running around constantly with him even though we told him that it was rsv season. The first hospital they were in we found out that they are concerned about their abilities as parents. They are now at another hospital and seem to be taking a free ride at a charity home where they are staying next to the hospital. They are rarely at the hospital even though the baby almost died. The hospital is monitoring how often they are there, and they are rarely there. We went uo to visit and discovered that they had been away from the baby for over 15 hours. When we left after two hours, they left too. We live two hours away from this hospital. We are considering trying to get emergency custody of our grandson because we are afraid that the baby will be taken away. Does anybody know the laws in Ohio or the next steps that we should take...

Get an attorney immediately. You will need one to wade through the Family court system.

You can't afford not to have one. Without one, then you will be at a distinct disadvantage when dealing with the Family court system.

But if you want to go it allong, then go down to the court and ask what you have to do to get custody or, at least, guardianship.

Does anyone have information or ideas on what we should gather together before we head to the courthouse, and should we do this immediately or wait until the baby comes home?

Do it immediately. Get a copy of the hospital records.
