    Fathers rights of unborn baby
My brothers girlfriend found out she was pregnant a couple of months ago. A week after they told me, his girlfriend told me there is a chance the baby might not be his. My brother was not mad because he said they both were seeing other people. But they decided to be together so they can raise the baby together as a family. Well about a month after he went to her house and all her belongings were gone and he could not get a hold of her. The next day she called him and told her she was going to drive back to Alaska to be with her mom, but she wanted him to fly to Colorado to drive her to ak because she kept pulling over getting sick. So he did and drove her to Ak. When he got back he said he decided to move to ak to be with her. Now she's saying she is not sure she wants to be with him and he is OK with that, but he told her he will file for joint custody that he wants to be in the baby's life if its his. Now she's not answering his calls. He is afraid that she's going to move again and not know when the baby is born.

Unfortunately nothing can really be done until the baby is born.

I'm not so sure about that. Your brother needs to consult an attorney. Its possible that a restraining order can be served on her that will force her to inform him when the baby is born and to submit it to a paternity test. Of course she could defy the order and it will cost him a lot of money to pursue her.

Well Scott's right... you could try an attorney and see what they say... it's a really touchy subject when it involves an unborn child.

I don't know the girlfriend/ex or what her situation is. However, if she should decide to place the child for adoption, he can protect his right as the possible biological father by placing his name on a putative father registry. Just Google "putative father registry." Just a suggestion... some people do not know about such a list.
