    Divorce and child abandonment
Ok I'm trying to find out some info on what I can do. I got married in January of 2009 in dekalb county my husband abandoned me in July of the same year I was 6 weeks pregnant with our first child together and he knew it he ran back to pa.(where he is originally from) and I have no way of finding him his old address has been foreclosed (not before he ran up several bills in my name there) and he had a whole other family there (which I knew not nothing of) currently even they can't find him. Anyway I just want a divorce but due to me trying to clear my credit of the mess he caused and being the single mother of two my funds are limited and legal aide offeres little to no help. What can I do to be rid of this stressful nightmare

What State? I don't know where DeKalb County is.

You can get the Court's permission to serve him by publication in a Court-recognized newspaper using Court-approved wording. Have you tried to collect support? The Support Collection Unit will locate people, presumably for collection purposes, but then you have his address.

Do you believe no one knows where he is? Seems odd that you knew nothing about them, presumably they knew nothing about you and everyone is drawing a blank.

I realize funds are tight but a Private Investigator can find him.

Try an investigator - it is impossible for anyone to totally disappear. You MIGHT be able to find someone willing to run the check free of charge.

I do some free searches for law firms that assign a lot of work to me.

I found out about them via social networking site and she informed me that he told her he was down here for work. And that she has since kicked him out and kept him away from her kids.and has lost contact with him since then.

You're going to have a problem with child abandonment - he left but he left the unborn child with you (not that there's any choice there), in good hands. If you can prove he's a danger you could try to get supervised visitation only - but I doubt you can keep him from getting any visitation.

I think if you start divorce proceedings you might find him right back in your life again.

In Georgia, child abandoment is not paying court ordered child support, so till you go to court and get a court order for support, that is not going to work. After that, the issue is that divorce if you can't find him will require publication which will be costly and normally an attorney.

There is little that can be done until you find them

You contacted his "other" family? Were they legally married? Ever divorced? If he was legally married to someone else prior to marrying you, then your marriage is not legal and you can get it voided. You just need to get a copy of his marriage certificate. You can also swear out charges against him for bigamy.

If he was married before, this will be your easiest way of getting rid of him.
