    Child support after 18
Hi, I have a young lady that lives with me and has scene she turned 18 in Oct of 2012. She is a senior this year and I pay for everything and her mother get her child support. When she lived at home she wasn't getting enough to eat and would come to our home to eat. Her mother was not getting her medical treatment and she needed new glasses they where 3 yrs old and she couldn't see well out of them and held together with elect tape. I paid for them after talking to her mother and she said she would pay me back $20.00 a month we are going on Jan with no repaying yet. When I ask she always says next month. This young lady was in the ER twice in three days and sick for two weeks. I called her mother the 1st time she went to the ER and it took over 2 hrs to get hold of her. I had to post a note to her little brother on Facebook because she didn't answer he cell or home phone. She told me she couldn't make it she would be late for work. My question is can this young lady receive the child support payments and not her mother.

No. She is an adult and no longer the responsibility of her bio parents. Bless you for taking this abused child into your home. But the likelihood of getting any help in paying for her care is extremely small. The only thing I can think of is a longshot. If she can prove she was abused as a minor, she might be able to file a lawsuit against her parents.

She should apply for public assistance. As an adult on her own she may qualify. Even though she lives with you, she would be considered a boarder and there may be help available.

Some states, and some child support orders do continue after the child turns 18 under certain circumstances.

No, the child does not receive support, the support goes to the parent who the court order says it should go to.

So why has the other parent not been notified and allowed to file for custody

My read on this is the OP is not a relative but just someone who has taken in the girl. So she would not be able to file for support.
