    Child support
Need help with back child support after child is over eighteen Hi,my son is 20 years old , his dad and I divorced when he was six and he was to pay 60 dollars for two years and then 17 percent of his gross income until I believe he was 18, he hardly ever paid anything and for some stupid reason I let him get away with it, he would tell me I was crazy and just a real jerk.

I raised his son by myself and I have a twenty year old , it was really hard and he even got inheritance and made thirty thousand off the house I walked away from. His favorite saying was if I isn't got it then I isn't got it. Well I was maulded by a pit bull dog and almost died and have lost everything , he did help some before my son turned eighteen ,like five months, but he probably owes a lot of money if I went back , I'm sure he never kept up with it and I didn't but I would say I probably got maybe three solid years of support but it wasnot solid, just here and there. He has finally got his act together and has just remarried and is going to adopt a seven year old and I want to know if I could go back and ask for back child support, can I still do it , I live in Ga.

I don't know who ever answers this but I just think I'm angry for all the years of struggling and going without and he has made money over the years but just never was responsible. Id like to at least have him help me now that I've done my job and his ,and now I need help, plus I think it would help me with any hurt I have inside.

Can I do this, should I do this, guess just need some advise. Thanks

Georgia law is: Child support collection laws enforcement - Free calculators "Generally, the obligation ends when the child reaches 18 years of age or the child graduates from high school, whichever occurs later. A child will also automatically be ineligible for child support if that child marries, is removed from disability status by a court order, or the child dies."

I see no provision for filing for back support when the child reaches 18.

Unfortunately, the Law cannot help you emotionally nor can you use it to exact some sort of revenge on the father.

Have you tried some sort of counselling for your emotional pain? I read your other post about being mauled by the dog - what does your Attorney in that case say?
