pop3 server in OE changes to 127.0.0.1 at boot.
I am having a devil of a time trying to figure out why Outlook Express keeps changing the pop3 server from pop.x.x.x to 127.0.0.1 after I shutdown or reboot. I have to remove all email accounts and reenter to receive emails. Just editing the pop3 server does nothing.

I am using WinXP Home SP2, on a local router network at home. Come to think of it - The computer was running with OE opened when power was lost. Would this cause this problem? More important - how do I keep this from changing.

Are you running norton antivirus by chance? I remember encountering a similar problem where Nortons decided it wanted to change the mail servers. If you are running it, try disabling email protection/scanning and see if that helps.

    Good luck

Well, 127.0.0.1 is the standard ip address for a loopback connection. In other words, it is connecting back to itself. I still say it is your antivirus software. Did you try turning off email scannign by your antivirus ? Here is an article to support this theory.:http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/.../oetopten.mspx

Not using email skanner. But SpamKiller from McAfee does something when I first open OE, but it is not inabled.

The spamkiller is definitely it, recheck your settings, or temporarily shut the whole software down to test. I'll bet the problem will go away. Did you read my link in above post ?
