    Wiring 3 way light socket
    I have a new 3 way light socket. I have two identical wires coming from the floor lamp. The new socket has one silver screw and one brass screw. Do I hook each wire to each screw?

    Look at the plug-does it have 2 different sized blades? If so, the wire attached to the big blade goes to the silver and the other to the gold. If they are both the same size, look at the cord. If the cord set is smooth on both sides, it doesn't make any difference what is connected to what. If the cord set has 1 smooth side and one side with lines or grooves, the grooved side goes to the silver and the other to the gold. Make sure it is unplugged before connecting the wires.

    One cord is grooved so I hooked that one to the silver screw. I would never have noticed that nor would I have known what to do with it. Worked perfectly. Thank you very much. Maggie
