    What is a line to neutral wiring
    Repairing a lighting fixture in a line to neutral connection.

    Question: Is it true that in a line to neutral connection, repairing a lighting fixture can be done safely simply by switching off the switch? And there is no need to manually switch off the circuit breaker?

    Elmer, "Line to Neutral" is a term used to describe two points of a connection.

    The way a light circuit is most often laid out is that the wall switch interupts the hot leg of the circuit. Switchs only carry hot conductors. Neutral is only now (2011 NEC) being required to be present at a switch outlet.

    Personally, I personally dislike working on live circuits so, I kill the power at the breaker any time I can.

    It is NEVER safe to rely only on a wall switch. Very often there is other wiring that will still be live.

    I strongly agree with Stan...
    Turning off the circuit breaker may take 5 minutes...
    Recovering from third degree burns (or worse)...

    Safer to have breaker off, Personally I just turn off the switch and work it like it is live.
    I work on many circuits live.
    There are some absolute do's and dont's.
