VFK484, Berko Wall Heater, 4800 Watt, 240 Volt, High Capacity, with Built-in t'stat
I just purchased this Berko VFK 484 Wall heater. The specs are here: http://thermalinc.com/comfort/PDFs/vfk.pdf

I have a double pole 20 amp circuit. I have 12 2 wire which I will use the black and white both as hot wires for the 240 volt connection. To achieve 240 volt connection, how should I make the connection to the heater?? Will there be red and black hot wires on the heater for this connection?

There is a problem with the 20 amp breaker and the #12 wire.

The breaker and wire needs to be rated 125% of the actual load. The actual load of a 4800 watt unit is 4800 watts / 240 volts = 20 amps x 1.25 = 25, so you will need #10 wire and either a 25 or 30 amp circuit breaker.

The connection at the heater should be clearly marked, and they may use black and red, or may use two blacks. In any case, there will be two wires at the heater which will be the 240 volt input.

The #10-2 wire will have a black and white. Sine the white will be used as one hot leg, it will need to be re-labeled as hot using black or red electrical tape at both ends and where it may be exposed in a junction box to indicate that this white wire is not a neutral.

And I do not know everything. Any good electrician learns something about the trade every day.

If I use the double pole 20 amp circuit and 10 2 wire, what kind of results will I get? Can this be done?

Need to use a 2 pole 30 amp breaker. The 20 amp will heat up and trip.

OK, I'll return the double pole 20 AMP circuit for a couble pole 30 amp circuit, and use the 10 2 wire.

I want to ask this. On the specs of this model (VFK 484), under volts it says "240/208." What circumstances would this be a 208 Volt connection?

In a commercial building, such as a retail store, office, or light industrial, or in a multi-family dwelling.

On on 30-amp 240V circuit I have (2000w, 1500, 1500, and 500w wall heaters) which adds up to 5500 walts. Two wire are going to the breaker Black, Red, and then the ground. If both the red and black are hot shouldn't there be a white for the return or to complete the circuit.

Anyone know how many watts a 20 Amp line is rated for? I have two 1500 watt commercial grade hot plates (total 3000 watts) that I want to run on a dedicated 20 Amp receptacle (and yes it is a true heavy duty 20 amp recepticle). Thanks JPM71299
