Use a 4 wire fan switch for a 3 wire fan?
Am I able to use a 4 wire fan speed switch for a 3 wire fan?

I have put Black to L and Blue to 1 and Red to 2 and can get high and off, no middle ground.

Is there a remedy to this. I live quite a way from a hardwear store

Looking into answers elsewhere I see more info might help. There are four wires coming out of the bottom of the fan, Black, white, red, blue. The Black wire is also split off to the light. The White wire looks to go only to the light.
I do not know the brand, it was in the house when I moved here.

    What make/model is the fan?

That will only work if it is a 2 speed fan, I suspect it will not work in your case.

I might consider wiring for High, without switch and use a fan control?

Again we would need to know if it's a two speed fan or three speed fan.

3-wire home, 3-wire fan, 2-wire remote [ 9 Answers ]

Greetings, My home is 3-wire. I bought a Hunter ceiling fan (model 23811). The fan came with a remote assy. That I do NOT want to use... The fan has standard 3-wire connections (black, white, blk&white strip, ground). The remote receiver home-side wiring looks to be for 2-wire (blk and white)....
