    Ceiling fan won't turn off
For the first 5 months in this house, our ceiling fan only had one speed. High. When you pulled the chain, it switched from high to off. Then, one day, I pulled the chain and it went to medium. Pulled again, to low. Pulled again, back to high. It does not have an off and developed 2 new speeds! Nothing was touched or replaced on the fan. Does this make any sense?

Does this ceiling fan have a light kit? If so does the fan switch function the same with the light on as it does with the light off?

Hi! It does have a light on it but there are 2 separate chains for the light and the fan. I have cycled through the fan with the light both on and off. Same results. I have also done the fan cycle when the fan was in reverse mode. No different.

And, if there is a wall switch for the fan and light, I have not found it :-/ Not sure if that matters. I have tried the fan cycles also with the switches in the room on and off just in case.

Quite unusual to say the least.

The reason for asking about the light was to consider incorrect wiring of fan and light during installation.

My guess would be defective pull chain switch. This defect could external to the switch. Look for speed wires to the switch touching each other, or touching the incoming power wire. However, most likely an internal switch defect.
