my home was built in 2002. I have square d panel. The electric co is saying I'm using 57-65 kwhs a day but I can only count 15-16. This has been ongoing since we moved in. I have 2 refrig using 3 kwhs a day and 1 pool pump running 4 hours a day = 8 kwhs a day. 3 TV none on over 12 hours a day and 1 week to 4 years old. Can you suggest something I could look for that can cause this amount of usage. They say their meter is OK.

Dishwashers, microwave, hot water heater, lighting, electric blankets, computers.

Is your pool heated? There are many sources. You might try asking them to do an energy audit for your home. Another thing where you can lose lots of power without even seeing it anywhere is if you have buried cables. Just the run through the ground can bleed energy. Electric stoves and ovens use a lot too.

Make a list of everything and anything that uses electricity and see what your new total comes to.

My pool heater has been used once in 5 years. I have a gas water heater, electric over (used mostly during holidays)
4 ton and 5 ton aire flo systems with gas heaters. Heater on upstairs during the night set @ 74degrees downstairs off most of time or set @ 70 degrees. All light bulbs 15 watts. 1 TV on during day other from 7 to midnight. No light on during day. 3 on during night

All off during day and 3 on during night. I used a kwh meter over 3 days for avg on each refrig. 1 = 1.81 kwh a day and the other .75 kwh a day.pool pump volts x amps to get wattage. My neighbor and I are equal on appliances but he has 4 pool pumps and his bill is $300 month less. 3 people in each households.my kwhs a day were running about the same even before I put in the pool.I just don't see the appliances to support 57 kwhs a day. Thank you

Power companies are usually pretty receptive to high bill complaints. Call them.

Just to help put things into perspective, consider if you were to have a 20 amp load running 24 hours:

20 Amps x 120 volts = 2400 watts x 24 hours will total 57 KWH per day.

Of course the amp draw is not exactly 20 amps per hour. Some hours may have very little, some hours may have much more. KWH is an average.

The KWH can be skewed by motors starting, each will draw 6 - 10 times running current, still very small amount of KWH as this current is only for a short time, but if you have motors starting frequently the KWH will add up.

Refrigerators and freezers may have defrost heaters built in. The unit makes no noise, so you may think the reefer is not running, however, a defrost heater can be a 1000 watt unit using power silently.

While neither use hardly any power, but cell phone chargers, cordless phones, power suppllies for electronins, even TV's not being used all use power without your knowledge.

My point is a 20 amp load every hour of one day is not that much, very fesiable to happen.
