Wiring a switch for a ceiling fan with light kit
I am trying to install a light fixture to my ceiling fan. I connected the blue wire from the currently installed fan to the black wire from the light kit and the white wires. There is no power for the light kit. When I checked the source wires the red wire to the fan is connected correctly but the red wire is not connected at the ceiling fan swith to anything. I need to get power for the light kit. What do I need to do using the existing ceiling fan switch (which is a variable speed swith) or do I need to get another switch to connect to the red wire. Also the variable speed swith has a green wire that is not connected to anything. Help Please

I would use a separate switch for the light. If you use the same power source, you will need to turn the light off and on with the pull chain. (or whatever is there).
If I'm not mistaken, the red wire supplies power to the light.

Ok, at the ceiling, what wires come out of the fan, and what are they connected to?
