    Electrical installation of a Southwind V 110 690
    Hello,
    I recently purchased a Southwind V (model 110 690) ceiling fan. I've made countless attempts to search and also install the unit but with very limited success. Since it was for my son's room (he's 5) I'd like to attach the remote unit that the product came with, to enable him to turn his own light on and off. Hopefully I can explain this thoroughly, although I did include a diagram. The wall switch has a 2 wire coming into it and a 3 wire leaving (there was previously a dimmer switch, which has been removed). The outlet box has the 3 wire plus another 2 wire there (with a third single white there as well). No matter what I do, I cannot get the lights to work (although I did have the fan working at some point, zaps included). Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

    From the information provided, it cannot be determined whether the power is being provided to the switch box via the 2-conductor cable or to the ceiling box via the 2-conductor cable there. You should first determine where the power is being provided. You should next determine where the extra white wire in the ceiling box is connected. What ever it's purpose, it is not correct. Disconnect everything in the ceiling box. There should then be something, an outlet or a light that does not work. Note that that non-working fixture may be in another room.

    If there is an attic space above this bedroom trace the extra white wire to determine where it goes. If there is no attic space, start pulling outlets and other fixtures, looking for and extra white wire. After tracing the come back and we can help you wire the fan/light and switch.

    What kind of fixture was previously in this room?

    What was installed there before, and how was it wired?

    You cannot control the fan from TWO wall switches AND the remote.

    Previously, it was just a two bulb light fixture, nothing special. And I'm not trying to control the fan from 2 wall switches and a remote. I'm trying to control it from 1 wall switch and a remote.

    Yes, but how was the fixture wired? You connect the fan the same way as the fixture.
