Replaced outlet, now light not working!
In a basement bedroom I had a dead outlet. I replaced it along with two others, the light switch and the light fixture. Today I realize that the closet light (that I did not touch) no longer works (it is on the same side as the dead outlet- which still doesn't work asfter being replaced).
What could this be? I disconnected the dead outlet and stuill, nothing... This is my first time touching any electrical and I am lost!

How comfortable are you in handling electricity?

For your immediate need, my first suggestion is to go to the main service panel or a sub panel if your connected to the subpanel.

Make sure that the breaker has been properly re-set. Turn the circuit all the way to it's off position and then turn it back to the on position. If all of the circuits now work, then just repair/replace the receptacle.

If resetting the breaker does not solve the issue, then I politely suggest that you call a licensed electrician.

If you ask him/her to they can teach you some of the basics behind troubleshooting a circuit.

Also, may I recommend that you either purchase or borrow some books on basic residential wiring to get some of the foundational understanding of the wiring.

Wiring looks good. Does it matter if capcitor is touching metal ? We had no way to attach the new capiter. The old capiter with 3 wires is enclosed in plastic tube, so we did not remove it, just bypassed it. New capiter has 2 wires, instead of 3. When we unplug the new capitor, fan still...
