Picking light kit for hampton bay ceiling fan
I just spoke to Home Depot where I was told that I would have to try hit or miss... isn't there some way I can determine how to pick a light kit for a hampton bay ceiling fan and know it will fit?

They are nearly all universal in fit but your fan has to be designed to receive a light kit. They don't all accept lights. Hampton Bay is a Home Depot only item so you would think they would know wouldn't you. Open the disk plate under the fan motor. If you find two wire marked "light" then your fan will take a kit. Just pick on that you like and it should fit with 4 screws.

    What model Hampton Bay fan?

All light kits should work with a fan THAT IS DESIGNED TO ACCEPT AN ACCESSORY LIGHT. Fans that include lights usually cannot use any other than the one that's included, if that makes sense.

It is a 10-yr old Cameron II... took about 2.5 hrs... because blue wire was not powered from when the original wiring of the house was done  The box is under the attic flooring which is nailed in place... so instead of going through the headache of pulling up the flooring to fire-up the blue wire that is there for an add-on light kit... I punched into the black wire that loads the fan. Don't know if that is acceptable to code, but the fan and light kit both work correctly so I am labeling this job Done. Thanks for your help.

Yes, you would think the HD would have been more helpful. My fan does accept a light kit... no wires were labeled for light... probably removed by the electrician who installed the fan when the house was buile... took about 2.5 hrs... because blue wire (the one that according to the light kit instructions should be the one for a light kit) was not powered from when the original wiring of the house was done  The box is under the attic flooring which is nailed in place... so instead of going through the headache of pulling up the flooring to fire-up the blue wire that is there for an add-on light kit... I usually don't hook up the blue wire when the fan doesn't have a light, to eliminate the possibility of a loose live wire in the switch housing. Hooking the light to the black wire is fine.

If you go to Home Depot for a ceiling fan replacement light kit you will be disappointed. Very limited choices. The one I picked is very lacking in actual light. I've been on line looking for another replacement with more light and once again am very disappointed. I think I'm going to have to purchase a new ceiling fan and it won't be another Hampton Bay. The reason for light kit replacement in the first place was to replace a globe that had broken. When I went back to Home Depot I was told that the type of globe I had to have wasn't available anywhere. I went on line looking for a replacement and was out of luck so I thought I would purchase a whole light kit. We know where that ended up and I am just about done with Hampton Bay.
