Outlets in or close to ceiling?
Everything that I have researched talks about minimum distance requirements from the ground. Anyone know about how close I can place an outlet to the ceiling? I plan on hanging my TV's on the walls of my basement.

You can place anywhere needed on ceiling or as high on wall you want.

I would have this in addition to the required outlets. May not be usable behind a mounted TV.

First, you don't need an outlet every 6 feet. The code [210.52(A)(1)] says that no point along the floorline of any wall space shall be more than 6 feet from an outlet. Basically you need one every 12 feet, not 6. But you can have more if you want them.

To answer the question though, you can mount it as high as you want but if it is more than
5 1/2 feet from the floor then it cannot be included as one of the required outlets. This is also in article 210.52 of the NEC.

    Hope that helps.
