Outdoor motion-sensing, photo-sensing wall lantern not turning off
Hampton Bay Motion Sensing Outdoor Wall Lantern #561456

I installed a pair of these lanterns next to my front door about two years ago, the first one works fine.

I’ve replaced the second lantern three times so far – when I installed the first lantern it worked fine except the motion sensor was too sensitive. But after a while the lamp stopped working so I replaced it.

The second lantern also had problems with the motion sensor sensitivity and an occasional problem with the photo sensor – it would sometimes turn on during the day, I replaced it when the light would stay on all the time.

I installed the third lantern yesterday and the light stayed on all the time.

What do you think the problem/solution is? I've checked the settings on the lamp and all seems fine. I connected the white wire from the lantern to a pair of white wires from the house and the black wire to a pair of black wires.

    Thanks

If applicable, put the motion lights in "test mode" to check bulb, timer circuit and this mode over-rides the optical sensor... It is best to best to check sensitivity and motion (trigger) area near sundown... Note, motion and optical sensors are 2 diff sensors.

I have the model HB 248-523 with the same problem. After exhausting my vast intuitive knowledge I read the instructions:
To change between automatic and manual mode turn the lamp off and back on within three seconds to reset the mode.

Hampton Bay outdoor flood light (motion/optical) [ 1 Answers ]

My HB flood lights stopped working recently, but if I turn the unit to "test", wave my hand in front of the sensor, the lights pop on. Turning it back to 1,5, or 10 minute timer delay does not work, even in the dark. Faulty opical sensor? Would that prevent the unit from operating in timer mode?
