New light fixture only has two wires and no ground.
Hi everyone,
I recently got a new ceiling light fixture with only two wires and no ground wire. The 2 wires look identical and are wrapped in clear plastic with no coloring or markings. From the ceiling, I have three wires, one black, one white, one ground. I am thinking of tieing the ground wire to the metal part of the light fixture but have no idea which wires from the light should go into the black or white wire in the ceiling. Any suggestions would be helpful! Thanks Eve |

The light doesn't care which wire is going to get the hot but I generally do care. You can connect your ceiling black to one of the light wires and then the white to the remaining wire. Using a probe tester reach inside to touch the round bead of solder on the base of the light socket with one probe, touch the other probe to the green ground from the ceiling. If you get power you are good to go. If no power test between the green ground and the threads of the socket, if you get power you should go back and reverse the wire connection between the ceiling and the light fixture.
