I have a 100A sub panel in my attached garage that is fed with 6/3 (copper NM-B) off a 40A breaker in my main panel. The panel has 6 slots and will handle 12 circuits. Now, my understanding is as long as I don't have more than 6 circuits on this sub panel, I am not required to run the feed...
Determining capacity and maximum circuits in panel

I can't find this info anywhere. I can only assume it's a dumb question. When I look at my 100 amp panel I see 32 spots for breakers. Down one side I count 16 and another 16 on the other. There are two 30 amp and 1 60 amp, and then about 20 more 20 amp breakers. When I add it up I get 510 amps....

I'm looking at getting some tools that will require having 220 for them. My main panel is full right now and has several Slim/Tandem/double breakers in it already. Reading some things on the net I see that the panel might be exceeding the limit it should have for breakers, but don't know at this...

I Want to replace an existing unused 20 amp two phase electrical outlet with a sub-panel containing single phase 110 volt circuits with appropriate circuit breakers. My question is: How many separate circuits does the NEC allow in this type of sub-panel?
