    Light switch question
    Hello,

I recently bough home that as built in the 40s. They electrical has been updated so I don't think there is old wiring I will need to worry about. In one of the bedrooms a single light switch is connected to both a wall outlet and the ceiling fan so if I want to turn off what's plugged into the outlet it will also shut off my ceiling fan. Is there a way to add another switch to control one so the existing switch just works the outlet or the fan? I have basic wiring skills so if it's not to complicated I can probably do it myself. I'm hoping I won't need to call an electrician.

    Thanks,

    Jack

Is it the whole outlet? Normally they just do 1/2 the outlet. If that is the case, put a child proof plug in the switch connected one and use the other half.
