How to install a ceiling fan with separate switches for fan/light
I have two switches for my ceiling fan. One for the light and one for the fan. I have a red/black/white/green wires coming from the ceiling. I have a black/black&white/white/green wires coming from the fan. First, do I need to have the light hooked up to the fan before installing and if not, how do I hook the wires together. I have tried ever conceivable way possible and it isn't working.

You seem to have two questions, first how to connect the ceiling fan/light to the ceiling and second how to connect the light kit to the fan.

Second question first. Now a days the wiring for the light kit simply plugs into the wiring from the ceiling that simply passes through the fan. If your wiring does not plug together, you connect all the whites from the lights to the white from the fan. You connect the blacks from the light to the hot from the fan which is usually blue or black with a white strip.

In order to answer the first question, how to connect at the ceiling, we have to know how the ceiling box and switches are wired.

Describe the wiring in the ceiling box.
