How do I wire a 3 way fan switch?
While replacing a pull chain switch on my Builders Best 3 speed reversible ceiling fan, I have forgotten how to hook up the wires. I currently have 1 red, 1 black and 1 gray wires coming from the bottom of the fan. The black box thingy(transformer?) has 2 gray wires on one end and a purple, a brown and a red wire on the other end. The new switch has a black, a blue and a dark pink wire on it.
I do remember that the black from the fan went to the black on the switch.
    Any ideas?

I already had black to L. I had a choice of 2 grays to the black box and 1 to the fan and I had a choice of red to the black box and a red to the fan.
So, I took the black box out and hooked the black from the fan to the L on the switch, the gray from the fan to the 1 on the switch and the red from the fan to the 2 on the switch.

I had to pull the chain 3 times and the fan came on low reverse.

Now that I know that I can switch wires around without blowing up the fan I will experiment with other combinations.

    Thank You
