Do you mean it came on just by you touching the lamp or what? What did you move, the lamp or did you turn the switch? We are confused.

    Hi,

What is going on is I just moved it from a different location in the room and found out it was a three-way. Then I switch it on manually, it worked by turn the little knob, seemed as if the touch and feel might be an issue. Then oneday I moved it again it did not work, since I have tighten, and adjusted the lamp, still does not work. It's one of those old fashion lamps with the cord going up the pole. Please can you assist. Thanks, only the 50watt work with the turn of the knob.

Quick suggestion, move the lamp back to its last working position and see if you are fighting a lamp problem or a receptacle problem.

Also, it is quite possible that you overtightened the connections on the lamb and shorted the connections. Without being able to see the lamp connections there is nothing more I can offer at this time.

I moved the lamp, turned the switch to on, it worked, shifted the lamp a bit it worked for maybe a day, I moved it again it did not work. Now it is back in it's original location and still doesn't work, I tried to loosen it to tighten it back up and it still doesn't work but only on the 50watts no others. No sure about this type of lamp the cord come from the socket throughout the lamp.

When you say moved the lamp we are going to assume you mean to another outlet, right? Have you also tried to install a new 3 way bulb?

That's how a bulb goes bad, they work yesterday but not today. Just try a new bulb to be sure.

Sometimes the base of the bulb oxidizes and needs some sand paper to clean it off. A new bulb is not a bad idea.
Inspecting the socket is not a bad idea.

If the above fails, you may have to replace the socket.
