Hampton bay ceiling fan light switch problem
I have a hampton bay ceiling fan with lights.. The lights just go on and off.. So I moved the fan from one house to another and in the process I broke the pull chain.. I pulled it and the chain would no longer move.. I ran up to home depot and bought a new switch. When I got home I was a little confused cause I was expecting the switch in the light to have two wires like the one I bought, but it only had one.. So the new switch I connect the two wires to the one from the old and put it back together.. Now my light will go on but not off.. No matter how many times I pull the chain the light stays on..

Did I wire it wrong or is the switch bad? Please help
