    Electrical questions
I have recently replaced a lightpost in my yard which had an outlet in the center of the post. The outlet only worked if the light was on. The light was controlled by a hard wired timer which had a black, white, red and green wire. I assume the red and black juiced the outlet and the light. The new lightpost has no outlet and now the timer will not juice the light. I placed a regular switch on the light and it would only light if the red and black were attached the switch had to be on, when the switch was shut it would pop the fuse. I would like to control the lightpost with the original timer. Do you have any suggestions that I could try? Thank you, the Zammit family, Brick NJ

Sounds like you have a 3 way switch with the green on the 3rd terminal, not the ground terminal.
When opening a switch, it relieves the load, not connect to it.
I would guess the black is constant power to timer and the red wire is the timed output.
The white should only connnect to the lights white and the timers white.

Tell us the number and color of the wires in the switch box and the number and color of wires at the lamp post and how they are connected.
