    Electrical outlet going out
    Have an electrical outlet on my covered front porch that I have most of my Christmas lights attached to... last night we had a HEAVY rainstorm with high winds that seems to have blown water into this outlet. Now there is no power coming from the outlet (I have confirmed this with a tester). It is not a GFI outlet and it does not seem to be an outlet covered in series by another GFI outlet. Additionally I have checked every fuse in the fuse-box and nothing is tripped. Is it possible that an individual outlet has an internal disrupt or that just the outlet can blow out? I would love to get my christmas lights back on asap. Do you think I will need to replace the entire outlet to get this done? OH yeah... this outlet seems to be the only one out. THANKS

    There can be a corroded wire connection at the back of the outlet. The outlet will probably need to be changed.

    Best to be sure to know the breaker for this,as working live is dangerous.

    Really should be a GFI outlet in it's place.

    Like above, work safe. Check, or change receptacle, Verify Bath GFI's, Check any recepticles nearby.
    With an extension cord for reference. Verify the integrity of the neutral and the hot to determine what is lost. If hot and neutral not intact, more likely it is powered from a GFI.
    If you find Neutral is intact. This will help determine what circuit it is on.
    And Test voltage out of all breakers. Some will trip and not throw breaker.
    Running finger down breakers with light pressure may expose tripped breaker.
    If you have no meter or tester, maybe turn all single pole breakers off, then on. Wait a bit before throwning breakers off then right back on, on frige especially.

While watching TV last night the outlet went dead. It may have been overloaded. However, when I tested the outlet, the checker indicated that the Hot and ground were reversed. The circuit breaker looks good and I reset it for good measure. How do I go about solving this problem? Thanks, Lloyd.
