Do I need a light switch for a remote controlled ceiling fan?
I want to have a ceiling fan installed in a room with no previous overhead lighting/light switch. Electrician will have to go into attic to run wires for electricity from one of several other overhead light fixtures in other rooms. If I purchase a remote controlled ceiling fan will I also have to have a new light switch added?

It depends on the unit(s) you buy, If it doesn't require the "In wall" transmitter.
If you buy the one that has a receiver that goes in the fan and is wired to a Constant hot, and uses a handheld remote(some have holder to place on wall) you can.

    Short answer: no.

But I don't recommend it. Remotes and remote fans are notoriously unreliable. You're better off with a non-remote fan and a switch, or even just controlling it with it's pullchains. Heck, if you want to avoid paying an electrician, use a swag kit.

I had to replace the flywheel on my Hunter ceiling fan and I had to remove the light kit that was attached. After I installed the flywheel, I forgot to mark the wires for re-connection. This is an older model fan. There are five wires coming from the fan motor--brown, blue, white, black and...

Wiring Remote Controlled fan to Three-Way Wall Switch [ 23 Answers ]

We recently purchased a couple of Hunter ceiling fans which came with remotes. I didn't realize this at the time, but supposedly you can't hard-wire the fans to three-way wall switches because they came with remotes. The problem with this is we have to fumble for the remote every time we go to our...
