    Ceiling outlet problem
The ceiling outlet has 8 wires 4 black, 4 white. There use to be a fan attached but it was removed years ago. When the light is on it turns itself off. We have replaced the wall switch but it keeps happening. The wall outlets don't work either.
    Can someone help?

You have to do a little better job describing this. What does "When the light is on it turns itself off." mean?
    Did it ever work?
How did you wire the light?
Did you undo all the splices in the box when installing the light? If so, why?

Sounds like you might have some series wiring. Plugging in something connects the light. Is the light a recessed fixture. We can only guess here with the info you supplied. How many wires are hot? Were any black and white connected?

Tell us how the wires are set in ceiling box. With that info we will be able to help you.
