    ceiling light fixture shorted out
I think a Ceiling light fixture shorted out because bulb wattage too high (2 x 100 watt when fixture called for 2 x 60 watt). Changed bulbs, not working. Tested the wall switch but tester shows no power to wall switch.

Turn off breaker. Remove fixture and take note of the wiring connections.

Examine the house wiring for damage. If you find no damage to house wiring, replace fixture. If you find damage to house wiring call a qualified electrician.

Depending on your skills, the fixture may be able to be repaired but unless it is a very expensive fixture it is not worth it, just replace.

Whether your test device shows power at the switch depends on the way the switch was wired and how you did you test.
