Hi All,

I can use some help replacing a single switched ceiling light with dual switched fan+lighting kit. I was hoping to do so without running any additional wiring, but unsure of what I am seeing in the outlet box.

What I see:

Bundle of 3 white wires all capped together
1 ground
2 black wires running into wall. One black wire is attached to the current switch. There is a jumper wire connecting the switch to the other black wire running back into the wall (with a cap on it). To clarify - it appears like follows:

<wall>----BLACK---<switch>---BLACK---<CAP>---BLACK---<wall>

I don't understand why the jumper is there, or if there is enough wiring to connect two switches in the box to control light and fan separately. If there is, unsure how to wire it up with so many white and black.

I don't believe this to be a 3-way switch, but maybe it is. I have some light switches on the other side of the room that don't appear to control anything (new house, working on figuring everything out), but could be for outside lighting.

I have yet to take down the lighting fixture to see what is up there.

One more note - there are actually 3 black wires. 1 running to top of switch, then others in configuration above running through bottom of switch.

You do not have enough wire running from the switch box to the fan, you'd need to pull another black or blue. You most quick opion is to install a remote control, the split for the light and the fan takes place inside the receiver in the canopy. Open the canopy to see if there is a capped black or blue already up there, could be from a previous installation.
