    Ceiling fan will not turn off
    I have a kitchen ceiling fan that will not turn off. When I hit the light switch it dims a tad but stays on. I replaced the switch and still it stays on. This is a old home with knob and tube wiring. Any thoughts?

    In the dining room, I replaced the ceiling fan which is on the same circuit, could I have screwed up the wiring which is causing this?

    I am a novice but can do some basic stuff.

    Does the ceiling fan in question have a pull chain switch, if so please pull the chain and see if it stops. Next choice would be to lower the fan and check the wiring inside the housing.

    Yes it does have a pull chain. I replaced the switch inside the kitchen ceiling fan. The fna and lights will turn off using the pull chains.

    What type of wall switch are you using? Is it a basic off/on?

    Their may be a Switchleg wire and a Constant Live in the same box and could have been crossed, or misswired.

    I would remove switch from circuit(1 wire) to verify switch is not the problem.
    If that is not the problem, and this used to work as wired, it may have a Constant hot making contact with switchleg(wire that goes from switch to fan).

    The fact that it gets dimmer is very odd.

    We had a electrician come out today and he was dumbfounded as well. We are just putting new wire in and being done with it.

    I think if it were a switch loop and insulation was deterioated, and in 1 cable it could be barely touching, making it dim, when the switch is turned on it is brite

    Switch loop with knob and tube? Never seen it, but it's possible.
