    Ceiling fan replacement
    I am replacing a celling fan that is controlled by two switches on the wall (one for the light, one for the fan itself)

    The new fan that I am trying to install comes with a remote and a remote receiver box.

    I connected the black wire from the ceiling to the black wire from the receiver box and the white wire from the ceiling to the white wire from the receiver box. I connected the red wire from the ceiling (light) directly to the blue wire from the fan. I connected it directly as I would like to continue to control the light with the wall switch.

    Since I connected the light wire from the ceiling directly with the light wire from the fan, there is a blue wire coming out of the receiver box that is not connected to anything.

    The light works with the switch but I cannot train the remote. Is it because the light wire coming out of the receiver box is tapped off? If that is the case, what should I do to make the fan work?

    What do the installation instructions tell you about this wire?

    There is no mention of the light wire (from the ceiling) in the instructions. If I cap it off and connect everything else according to the instructions, I cannot train the remote either...

    Is the switch that use to control the fan in the on position?

    Typically with a remote you only need 1 power line input, not two. The remote handles everything on just 1 line and the second switch is not used. .
