    Ceiling fan / house wiring
I'm attempting to install a ceiling fan with remote, but I'm having some problems with the house wires. House wires are:

2 white (attached to white wire of current light fixture)
2 black and 1 red wire (all attached to black wires of current light fixture)
2 copper grounds (attached to metal ceiling mount)

The ceiling fan wiring is connected to the remote receiver. The wires coming out of the remote receiver are: 1 black, 1 white.

I connected the white wires together; and the black wires with the red wire. I also connected the 2 house grounds together, but didn't connect them to the box. The fan and light work properly with the remote. However, neither turns off with the light switch. Is this because I didn't connect the grounds to the box or does it have something to do with the red wire?

Connect both ceiling whites to receiver white. Ceiling red to receiver black. Connect both ceiling blacks together. Connect grounds together and ground fan. It should work.
