Bathroom Fan Light Does Not Work
I have a Nutone combination Fan/Light in my bathroom. Out of the blue, the light does not work but the fan still works. There is a separate switch for the fan and another for the light. I checked the bulb and it is OK. I checked the switch and it seems to work. I detected voltage on the hot wire coming into the light socket in the fan housing. All wires appear to be connected. I rubbed the contact point between the ground on the light where it meets the fan housing to make sure that had a good contact. Could this some how be related to losing the ground? If so, how do I go about getting the ground back again?

How are you testing? Are you testing between the black and white on the lamp socket? You should have voltage there with the light switch on.

To check if the white is open, test between the black on the socket and the frame of the fan, which should be grounded. If you gte voltage here then the white is open, probably because of a loose splice. Or event where the wires attach to the socket can be loose or broken. These connections are usually a rivet to the socket and can loosen.

Whichever you find open you need to check each connection back to the switch.

See what you have, and get back if you have any more questions, or do not understand something.

I have a 3-year old Hampton Bay Ceiling Fan/Light with fluorescent bulbs and remote control. A few months ago, one of the bulbs fell out. After I replaced it, I have had problems ever since with both the fan and light. Basically, after a few minutes of operation (either fan or light), it starts...

Newbie: would this work for a bathroom group? [ 7 Answers ]

Hi there. Thanks for all the great info. I'm considering adding a second bathroom to my slab home in Florida. This will be on the complete opposite side of the existing bathroom, so tying into anything existing is not feasible (except water which I can pull from the garage). What I want to...

Bathroom fan/light: light works, fan doesn't [ 3 Answers ]

I'm back with more "finishing basement" questions. This weekend, I wired my bathroom. This is 20 amp service with 12 ga wire. For the bath fan/light, the power source came into the switch box (1 box, 2 switches) on a 12/2 wire. From there, power goes up to the light/fan on a 12/3 wire. Red goes...

Light won't work on ceiling fan [ 1 Answers ]

I had a ceiling fan installed, and the light on it quit working. I thought there was probably a problem with the light kit, but since I didn't like the fan, I replaced the whole thing with a new fan and light. The fan has always worked, but the light still doesn't. Any thoughts on what it could be?

Ceiling fan light doesn't work [ 2 Answers ]

I have put up many ceiling fans with lights but this is the first time I have put one up without a light and then went and bought a light kit. (By the way there are two switches on the wall, one for the light and one for the fan). The ceiling fan worked perfectly and then I went to put the light...
