I am installing a new lighting circuit for 24v track lighting. The transformers are located in the middle of two 3-way switches. When the switch is on - either side - I get a reading on my multi meter of 124 volts. But when the switches are in the off position, I get a reading of 74 volts. When I hook up a test light fixture, it works fine.
I have wired many of these in the past and have never had any problems, but this is the first time I have tested the voltage at the load/ light fixture. Is this normal? I have tested all the wires and have found no shorts. Both switches have been tested and replaced.

I would need to see a wiring diagram to understand what voltage is where. One thing confusing me, the transformer is in the middle of the two 3 way switches...

Are the 3 way switches controlling the 120 volt or the 24 volts?

By the way, what type of lighting do you have? Most low voltage lighting I am familiar with is 12 volts.

# way switches do not have an on or off position. The switched leg from the switching is energized by which position both switches are in.

Are you getting 124 volts at the light socket, that is suppose to be 24 volts?

Where are you testing , at the light fixture?

Really need to know more about what your doing and how this is connected to speculate.
