Wireless phone charging technology and Voltage Detection Technology
Are there is similarities between voltage detection using a tic tracer and qi charging technology for smartphones? Is it comparable or are they completely different in how they operate?

Similar in concept - they both use capacitive coupling to pass energy. In the case of the voltage sniffer when the probe is inserted into the electric field around an AC conductor you get an EMF in the sniffer that's strong enough to illuminate its lamp. A cell phone charger that's capacitively couplds is similar in concept - the interface between the charger and phone forms a capacitor, which can pass AC energy.

But you would need the charging station or dock in order form the capacitor correct? You wouldn't be able to do detect voltage simply using a phone right?

Is this based on specific tic tracers like magnetic induction testers? Or do all tic tracers including non contact voltage testers use the same concept?

    Thank you for your help

Qi wireless charging technology uses an electromagnetic field and inductive coupling to send energy from point A (transmitter) to B (receiver).
Qi chargers typically use an induction coil to create an alternating electromagnetic field from within a charging base station. The second coil in a mobile device takes energy from this electromagnetic field and converts it back into electrical current to charge the battery.
