Are we slowly killing our dog?
So from day one I have consistently fed our new dog puppy chow. Well recently the vet told my husband Zeus was old enough for adult dog food now so my husband switched it. ZEUS WILL NOT EAT IT. Normally I would just try another brand but I think what is really to blame is my husband. He constantly feeds Z leftovers. The dog can't pass a McDonalds without his chicken nuggets. Oh and I don't even want to think about the fact he has to get him a doggie dish of vanilla when he buys us blizzards at DairyQueen. I have been buying wet food and Z will eat that. I also give him dog biscuits because they say they are good for his teeth and have nutritional value. The question is... can eating wet dog food and dog buscuits give him decent nutrition? Oh and before you ask NO Z isn't fat. The one good thing is that my husband runs him daily. The little guy is a running fool and so Jerome helps him get his energy spent. Every time we see the vet she commends us on how Z is "A perfect example of what a dauchound should be". I just worry that all this people food and meat is causing him to lose out on nutrition.

Shame shame shame. You went about it all wrong. When switching from any food to a new one you do it very gradulal. Replace a little at a time. Wet dog food is fine (just not good on the teeth. Please no human food not even junk food. Keep in mind 1 pound on a dog is equivalent to about 15 lbs on us.

So should I buy the old food and then mix in just a little of the new? I have never had dogs, just cats, so all of this is really new to me. Oh and I promise Z IS NOT FAT.

I have wrote so much about the effects of people food I feel like a broken record, lolol The basic we change the diet around 6 - 7 months of age in small breed dogs is mainly to reduce the amount of caloric intake an lower his protein levels, feeding puppy food his entire life can be acceptable by simply reducing the volume he is offered. I good habit with these little crooked legged hunters would be glucosamine to jump start the defects in the breed. Also,.

Most any pet store offers chewable dog vitamins to make owners feel better. Most any name brand dog foods are very adequate forms of a healthy diet. The only difference in puppy food an dog food that will cause conditions of concern would be weight gain. I see by your messages you are familiar with the dangers of a fat weenier. Stop the people food until Z himself graduates Emerils school of doggie delight. YOU WILL REMEMBER me saying this if it continues. By the way He is very good looking!

I think you really need to get him on dog chow. Almost any of them are carefully formulated to provide the dog a complete and balanced diet. The dry ones are better for his teeth and jaws. I am not a big fan of all the special chows, but one thing that might help would would be the chow meant for smaller dogs that comes in smaller pieces.

You need to go to the ''My dog won't eat'' sticky for instructions, https://www.askmehelpdesk.com/dogs/i...tml#post254171 Even if he isn't fat, missing a few days of eating won't hurt a thing. I guarantee the Shepherd I used as an illustration wasn't over weight, they seldom are. You just the discipline to insist he eats a good diet.

Wet food is made of mostly water. It is not very good for pet's teeth either.Mix the wet with dry,he will eat when he gets hungry. Also, the first ingredient listed on your pet's food should be chicken or beef;not corn.
