    Something's not right.
My mini daschund has his bed on the dresser beside my bed so were eye level. The past two night I've woken up to him puking, I grab him in time to put him over the toilet, but all that comes out is stomach acid, It has happaned the last two nights around 4-5am. I also notice what looks like a scab on his back I thought nothing of it because I have three cats and they sometimes play ruff with the dog. But I notice a couple more scabs on his belly, back and cheek they look like cradle cap and flake off easily with sores under neath. I don't think it's cat scratches. I know what your going to say, take him to a vet. I am. I just want to hear some opinions on this. Thanks. :)

It sounds like you have two separate issues here.

I presume when you say that when the dog vomits it is like stomach acid that you mean yellow bile? If so, it probably is nothing serious. Usually a yellow bile just means the dog had an empty stomach when he threw up. Obviously if it continues or becomes worse there is definite cause for concern and probably tests are in order. Vomitting can be a symptom of so many disorders - some serious and others not so serious - that a professional should be consulted. If the dog is very young then don't let it go on too long.

As for the skin issues... is there an odour? Does he itch? Is there heavy flaking? You should definitely see the vet if the answer to those questions are yes. He could have a skin infection or even mange, and both of those would require immediate care.

    Good luck!

There are very few things that have such specific symptoms that anybody can diagnose the problems from your description. So yes, the vet.

It's a bacteria infection, nothing a little antibiotics can't fix, I went to a new vet and she charged me $58 for the consult and $28 for the skin scrape test (which is the vet looking in a microscope to see if there is any parasites) and another $49 for the antibiotics (14pills) This is a new vet for me, and I think the pricing is a little higher than usual, what do you think?
My other vet has had some really bad reviews, but there priceing is dirt cheap

Stay with the higher priced one... you get what you pay for. I was going to say it sounded like a staph infection and she was very thorough to do a skin scrape. You should look into the pet insurance deal. The good one's pay for a lot more than you think they would. Used to, they only paid for catastrophic situations. Now, its rountine stuff, too!

It sounds like the consult and scraping are reasonable prices, not sure of the antibiotics though. As mrscoltweaver said, the vet was very thorough so sounds like a good one. If you have more than one pet the vet may be willing to knock a bit off your bills. My vet, who people travel hundreds of miles to see for bone and joint issues, gives me a great discount! Mind you I have 2 dogs, 3 cats, 2 turtles and a love bird! :)

I'm glad the poor gal is being well cared for. Did the vet say anything about the dog throwing up bile? I imagine if it continues she may want to do a few other little tests.

Yeah, the throw up has stopped, she said the bacteria infection might be from an allergic reaction, maybe from food, can't tell until it clears up and if it comes back again. But she said that the puking is probably upset stomach, if it continues than call, but it has stopped
I have 3 cats too, but they go to a cat only vet, he's extreamly good at what he does, and has won many awards, to bad he doesn't see dogs

Something's wrong... [ 4 Answers ]

First time posting... hope someone can help me. I'm 8 months pregnant and about to lose my mind! Installed a 3-speed ceiling fan and no matter how many times I pull the cord and wait, the speed stays the same---ridiculously high. Any idea on what I did wrong? Would it be something...
