We have a beagle pup that is going on eleven weeks. He is doing well with house training but we can't get him to sleep when we want to sleep. He wants to stay up and play all night. We have tried keeping him up in the evening and playing with him so he will be tired. My boyfriend is getting impatient with the lack of sleep? Any ideas?

He's a puppy, he's full of energy so make him use it.
Have you been leaving him at home all day alone? If so he's probably sleeping all day and his zarcadian rhythm is all messed up. Is it possible to have someone come and check in on him during the day, maybe take him out and play with him during the day?
Also I'd suggest walking him as much as you can everyday. Dogs like exercise and really need it to stay calm and when they're young playing with them just isn't enough.
If neither of those things work, get him a crate if you haven't already, put it on the opposite end of the house, put a towel over it so he can't see out, and then go to bed.
He'll cry at first but eventually he'll get used to it, also put some toys in with him too to keep him entertained if he does stay up.

Remember he's just a puppy and he wants attention, so give it to him and keep him active during the day so he sleeps at night.

A. This is a beagle puppy. Beagles are high energy dogs. They need a lot of exercise to tucker them out.

B. If this were a cat, I'd say that part of the problem is that they are nocturnal animals. I'm pretty sure wolves are too, so it makes sense that your dog wants to be up all night. It's just instinctive for them.

C. Everyone I know (including me!) who has adopted a puppy or kitten goes through a sleep-deprived phase because of A and B, and wonders if it would be better to get rid of the new pet. They do outgrow the energy level eventually and settle down to your routine, but it's going to take some time.
