    Paranoid
    Hopefully someone can help me...

I just got my puppy two days ago... before we picked her up we were told from our breeder (well known breeder, excellent) that one of the dogs in the litter had worms... and she told us that our puppy didn't, and she gave us a pill to give her in a weeks time... I've been looking at her stools and they are good in colour, a little runny, but they have a slite little white thing in them, maybe the size of the tip of a needle a little bigger... Im not sure if I'm just being paranoid or she does have worms... please help,

    First time puppy owner

If one puppy in a litter has worms, ALL of the puppies in the litter have worms. If the breeder has already treated the puppy for worms you are probably seeing them die off through the stool. If she hasn't treated her with anything and her is passing things in the stool, that look like grains of rice those are tapeworms. What is the pill called that she gave you. Different types kill different types of parasites. A puppy can be infested with many types of worms, the most common being round worms, tapeworms, and hookworms. Which can all be fatal in a young puppy without treatment. What can't be treated with a general wormer is Giardia which is a parasite also, which the best way to find is having a fecal done ( checking a stool sample under a microscope). Most likely the puppy does have worms, no matter how good the breeder is. I would take the puppy into the vet and get a fecal and a over all health examination, especially if the stool is loose or has a foul smell it could possibly be parvo. At that time you should start the rounds of vaccinations if they haven't already been started. It helps for being a new puppy owner, there you can ask any questions you might have.

    In response to your questions...

The breeder took all the pups to the vet. Her vaccination record is as follow

    Distemper
    Parainfluenza
    Adenovirus
    Parvovirus
    Coronavirus

The pill that she gave me is called pyvail, not sure of the spelling?

She was at the vets this Monday the 24th.

    Hi, faith,
    Do you have a Vet?
    If not, get one.
Take your puppy to the Vet yourself, have her checked out. You will need a Vet, sooner or later. Now is the time to find one you like.
Take a stool specimen with you. I do wish you the best, and if you are interested, here is some information you might like:

As a new puppy owner, I highly recommend a video by Ceaser Millan, a Professional Dog Behaviorist. He rehabilitates dogs, and trains people.

He has his own TV program, the Dog Whisperer, on the NGEO (National Geographic) channel, on Friday nights mainly, but also comes on some other days. This video is available from:
    Cesar Millan Center
I also ordered his new book, "Ceaser's Way", from Walmart online, around $15 US, and it's very good!

There are other good videos available on the web, but this one is really worth your attention.

Well if there was no proof of the breeder doing a fecal on the puppy and the vet knows that and didn't recommed one I would look for a different vet. How old is the puppy? Puppies need 3 sets of shots which is like you said the DPPA2C/bordatella/rabies, The combo vaccines and bordatella (bordatella is pretty much your choice if you will be taking the puppy to be groomed, dog parks, boarding, or any area where dogs are held) are given 3 weeks apart starting at usually 8 weeks then the last round would include rabies given at about 16-18 weeks. If the breeder took the puppy for that first round I'm pretty sure she did a fecal on the pups. That's of course how she has the dewormer If you have a record from a certified vet that the breeder gave you that's good. The vet should have told you what you need to do. I have never heard of the pill she gave you, but you can try it and keep an eye on the stool you will see worms passing in it, that's a good sign, pretty distusting looking though. The whole situation is just weird. I would recommed calling different vets and seeing what they say. Good luck.
